The Lake Washington Renovation was primarily concerned with the re-design of the kitchen in an older, traditional home in Seattle. The existing kitchen was expanded by a new, glazed addition, which made the overall kitchen very spacious. The new space included the primary food-preparation areas, a breakfast seating area, and a niche with comfortable seating for reading. A focal point was the new wood-burning fireplace and pizza oven. The kitchen is a rich interplay of textured surfaces: custom-designed, textured cabinet panels, irregular limestone facing on the fireplace, custom tilework, and a subtle pattern of varied recesses in the ceiling. Accenting the space are a number of custom-designed furnishings: two steel and mahogany tables and two steel and blown-glass light fixtures.
